Couture Colorado – The Venue Guide!

Couture Colorado has done it again!  I am delighted to share with you the latest awesome development for this already pretty amazing website / Colorado wedding source.  It’s the Couture Colorado venue guide.  What I love the most – these venues (some older and established and some new and eager) all share in the excitement that IS the Colorado Wedding Experience.  Every single one of these venues offer something new.  And pretty.  And fun.  So let’s do a wedding at each of them – shall we?

This weekend’s wedding had one of the most AMAZING (and delicious if I do say so myself) dessert bars that I have ever seen. But until I can share those decadent photos with you – here is a little wedding inspiration for you in terms of dessert bars, pie bars and candy buffets.  Of course they can be wildly whimsical (think bright colors, bunting, flags, etc).  Or take a similar idea and run with a candy bar.

And yes, there are several sources for color coordinated candy.  We have come a long long way from M & M’s being the only option.  Just a few things to keep in mind for your delicious dessert buffet!

The pie bar above was created by Teacup Bakery for a lovely rustic wonderland wedding we did a few years ago.  And the dessert bar below was for a smaller Ranch wedding.  The key to the display is to pick an element (wood, glass, color, texture, etc) and carry it through the design

Signage – make sure your baker sets up the display with the correct signage.  In these times of overwhelming nut allergies and rising cases of celiac disease – make sure that your guests know what they are eating!

Portions – with smaller bite sized or mini desserts – plan on 3-4 per guest (in addition to the candy)

Bags and Boxes – provide your guests with a way to take some the delectable goodies home with them!  Personalized bags, boxes, chinese take-out containers – the options are endless!

Get to know A Vintage Affair Rentals

I love wedding days.  I love unique and fun brides.  I love all things vintage and rustic and lovely (this obsession started in Chicago 17 years ago when I first walked into the Shabby Chic showroom on Rush Street and decided right then and there that I would be the kind of person who would have an oversized white slipcovered couch.  I am still not that person.  I do still love the look)  So I think that the universe smiled when Jessica Strong popped into my studio last winter because she had just set her wedding date and I was referred as a potential day of coordinator.

We immediately hit it off, talked for an hour and Jessica told me all about her wedding vision and an idea she was tossing around for a vintage rental company.  Jump ahead a few months and the company is A Vintage Affair Rental.  And it. is. WONDERFUL.  And taking the Colorado wedding industry pretty much by storm!  I have been lucky enough to work with Jessica twice already (on Anna Be Five and on a vow renewal).  Her inventory grows daily.  Her love for events and styling is contagious.  Her taste is pretty darn flawless.  Here are just a few images from her website – seriously, gorgeous.

Now a little bit about Jessica from the site “While planning her own wedding, Jessica, became frustrated with the lack of resources available for brides wanting a vintage-inspired wedding without breaking the bank. Thus, she founded A Vintage Affair Rentals in March 2011.   She has a bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism from the University of Denver and a Master’s in Human Resources also from the University of Denver. She lives in Denver, with her fiancé and two chocolate labs (Charley and Gunner) She loves to travel, go to the mounatins, try new restaurants, plan parties, and of course hunting for vintage treasures!”

Take a look at her site.  Be inspired.  And then call her and book the items!  The delivery fees are completely reasonable and Jessica is an absolute joy to work with.  Now I just can’t wait until a certain wedding in August.  I have no doubt that it will be one of the best weddings that I have ever been fortunate enough to be a part of!

Amy and Dave’s purple Devil’s Thumb Ranch Wedding

It’s pretty clear to anyone who has read any part of this blog that I LOVE weddings.  All kinds – big weddings, small weddings, summer weddings, winter weddings.  I just love every part of wedding days!  But there is something so wonderful and kind and magical for me about weddings with kids.  Weddings that are truly about solidifying a new and non-traditional family.  Family weddings.  So to Amy and Dave (and their pretty wonderful children) congratulations on your family.  Thank you for trusting me with the design of this beautiful day.  And thank you to Casey from Two One Photography and Devil’s Thumb Ranch!

Tatum and Andy’s Engagement Session with In Photography

I can’t wait for Tatum and Andy’s April wedding at Devil’s Thumb Ranch!  I actually met Tatum and Andy when they were visiting the Ranch in September while I was setting up Neysa and Scott’s wedding (honestly, they saw me moving all the decor from the outside ceremony site in the pouring rain while we were resetting the ceremony in the Timberhouse)  Maybe that was it – they knew that I will hustle and make the day lovely!  And I am tickled pink that In Photography is going to be onsite capturing this gorgeous day.  Did I mention that the design is to die for???  Neutrals and balsa wood flowers . . . stay tuned for that one!!!

Tatum and Andy – you are going to love your wedding day!!!

Happy Anniversary Tiffaney and Dave!

Where did the past year go?  It seems like just yesterday Tiffaney and Dave were playing like kids (in their wedding clothes) all over Winter Park and Devil’s Thumb Ranch!  So it is with lots and lots of love that I share a few of these lovely wedding photos from Brinton Studios.  To see the rest of this gorgeous day – check out the feature on Style Me Pretty!

I loved this day!

Colorado Wedding Trends – Mad Libs

Who doesn’t love Mad Libs?  I mean really – mad libs let your sense of humor and wit and silliness shine. And mad libs at a wedding are great idea for letting your guests show off just how funny they can be.  For Emily and Dan’s wedding at the Grand Lake Lodge last summer, Emily added the couple’s wedding logo (made by the lovely Julie Sandusky of JSCustom Designs) to the top of the page and the guests did the rest.  The result left everyone rolling down the aisle (yep – pun intended)

Liz and Nick – Wild Horse Inn Wedding

Liz and Nick are sweet.  And smart. And seriously the most considerate bride and groom ever!  Liz and I had planned the design for their July wedding at the Wild Horse Inn in Tabernash using bright red, burgundy and bright blue.  Fun and bold and we built everything around hearts roses (they are gorgeous and they open almost like a peony.  Trust me – they are awesome)  Soooooo, when Liz called me 3 weeks before the wedding and told me that one of her best friends was coming to the wedding (yaaa!) and that she was deathly allergic to roses (booooo!) we had to scramble (i.e redesign the tables IN BUDGET without rose).  I was able to redesign using carnations and orchids – and I was pretty darn happy with the result .. .

May we all have friends that are this considerate.  A huge thank you to Rachel Terry of Stellar Photography, Suzi Carroll (Winter Park’s own cake lady!) for the delicious cake and the Wild Horse Inn for making yet another wedding simply awesome.

I heart mercury glass

I have to be honest.  I am obsessed with mercury glass and I have been since I did Dave and Tiffaney’s wedding last January (post coming next week)  It is just so darn pretty!  And based on the number of weddings that I am using it for next year, clearly I am not the only one who is jumping on this bandwagon.  Whether you are doing a neutral wedding focusing on textures and pale neutral shades or if you are going for big impact and glam – it is going to be hard to pass on mercury glass for your wedding this summer.

Inspiration Board for a Vow Renewal

How simply sweet is this?  When CR Brinton (of Brinton Studios) called me and told me that he and Tiffany wanted to do a vow renewal to celebrate 10 years together – I think I burst into tears and said what can I do?  What can I do???  Intimate and sweet, this is going to be in a field and all about their incredible 5 year old daughter (who had some pretty awesome design contributions – I have to say – if you want to plan a magical wedding, consult a five year old girl who loves Disney movies . . .)
